Raja Riaz jumps ship, joins PML-N

Former MNA meets PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif and President Shehbaz Sharif in London

ISLAMABAD:

Former opposition leader Raja Riaz on Saturday switched allegiance to join Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). The former member of National Assembly (MNA) met PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif and the party President Shehbaz Sharif in London in this regard and expressed his confidence in Nawaz’s leadership.

Former finance minister Ishaq Dar, former law minister Azam Nazir Tarar, Mian Nasir Janjua, Ataullah Tarar, Malik Ahmed Khan and Amjad Parvez Butt were also present on this occasion.

Previously, the former opposition leader was a member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

Former MNA Riaz was a disgruntled member of the PTI who made a forward block in April, 2022 – serving a final blow to the party’s government that ended its hold in centre. Riaz refrained from joining any other party and became opposition leader till the assembly completed its constitutional tenure.

However, there are speculations that his tenure as opposition leader did not give tough time to the government. There were rumours that he would join the party while he was opposition leader.
